Exile was the second book written by R.A. Salvatore about Drizzt Do'urden. It covered the events from the time that he left Menzoberranzan until the time that he left the Underdark and journeyed into the surface world. It mainly deals with his struggle against "The Hunter", the murderous instincts of the drow that still remain in him. He is captured by deep gnomes partway through the book and ends up befriending one and being set free. Ultimately, though, he decides to leave, for he can no longer bear a life of solitude and darkness in the Underdark, and he knows that he will far outlive the Svirfneblin.
